Scramble and Alternate Shot

One-ball team formats: each team posts one score per hole. Scramble teams get a team handicap worked out from the players’ handicaps.

OrganizerPlayer

Scramble

Everyone hits, the team picks the best shot, and everyone plays from there. One score per team per hole.

Alternate Shot

Partners share one ball and take turns hitting it. One score per team per hole.

How teams are entered

  • A single-round Scramble or an Alternate Shot event: add each team by name, with a team handicap if you use one. The board ranks teams like stroke play.
  • A Scramble round inside a multi-round team event: players are entered one by one and put on teams of 2 to 4. The team handicap is worked out for you.

Scramble team handicap

Team sizeTeam handicap
2 players35% of the low + 15% of the high
3 players20% + 15% + 10%, low to high
4 players25% + 20% + 15% + 10%, low to high

Example: a 6 and a 20 play off 0.35 × 6 + 0.15 × 20 = 5.1, so 5. No round allowance is applied on top.

Good to knowIn a Ryder Cup, a Net Scramble round gives each pair 35% of the lower handicap + 15% of the higher, and a Net Alternate Shot round gives each pair half its combined handicap (both USGA standard). Rounds the AI builder makes start Net; rounds you add start Gross until you set them to Net (handicaps).
